Week 2-3 – Activity 3 (Second Quarter)

 Intimate A man gets down to his knee, telling his girlfriend how much he loved him and then asks her hand for marriage.  Casual When a father tells his children a story about how life was like in the Philippines during the coronavirus pandemic.  Frozen When members of a church group pray the Hail Mary altogether.  Consultative A cardiothoracic surgeon saying to a woman that her baby has pulmonary atresia where a valve in her baby's heart did not form at all, causing the baby's heart to not pump blood from the right ventricle to the baby's lungs.  Formal When the president of a broadcasting company declared to the company's viewers, listeners and staff that the company had to shut down because of blatant attacks by the current fascist regime.

 You were not able to prepare for your graded report in Oral Communication. Mr. Reyes, then calls you to go to the front and start your presentation. How are you going to explain your situation yo your teacher? First, i would take a step back, and breathe. The responsible thing to do here is to admit that I made a mistake and face the consequences that will come with it. I would say it directly to the point without any ambiguity, and I will take responsibility with humility. After apologizing, I would do anything in my power to make it right if I were given the chance.  Your cousin, Karl, calls you over the phone and tells you that he cannot help you in your errand because he needs to do something for his school project. Week 1- Discussion (Second Quarter)

How do you usually start a conversation? Based on the lesson, I have found out that I usually start a conversation with a "nomination" approach. This is when a person starts a conversation by asking a question, giving a compliment, or asking for opinions. I use this approach every day with my family and my friends. An advantage of this communicative strategy is that it is very casual, and it does not require formal speech. Moreover, it urges the receiver to send a feedback to the original sender of a message, thus creating a smooth flow of communication.  Give a specific problem that you encountered during a conversation and how did you address it? A specific problem I encountered was when I entered a national inter-school industrial engineering competition. When the organization that hosted the competition announced their guidelines, it amassed a lot of confusion because there were a great deal of discrepancies in the given guidelines.
