Week 7 - Discussion 2
How can you improve your communication with your classmates, family members, teachers, etc. using verbal and non-verbal communication?
First and foremost, to become a good communicator, I first have to become a good listener because once I improve my listening skills, I will be able to give appropriate responses to the messages that people will give me; which leads to the first step in being a better communicator: appropriateness. I always have to be appropriate because it will enable me to better understand the nature or context of someone's message. Next I ought to be concise with my words. This will reduce the ambiguity of the messages that I will be delivering. Next, I should always have clarity. Having a clear message using simple words will ensure that the receiver of my message will not be misinterpreted. Moreover, I should always be mindful of who my audiences are. This will reduce discriminatory remarks that I may accidentally give. Next, I should exchange information in a lively and vibrant manner for the reason that my audience would be able to grasp what I am saying with a more positive attitude. Meanwhile, on the aspect of non-verbal communication, I will always make sure that the tone, hand gestures, body language, or facial expressions that I give while delivering my message is appropriate to what I am saying. This will reduce the possibility of having misinterpretations and communication breakdowns.
