In your own words, what are the different types of speech according to purpose and delivery?
There are three types of speeches according to purpose, they may be: informative, persuasive, or entertainment speech. The first type which is the informative speech, is mainly conducted to to disseminate information to an audience. An example of this is a lecture of a professor, this type of speech is also known as "expository." The second type is the persuasive speech, which is performed with the purpose of convincing an audience to what the speaker is saying. Some examples of people who give persuasive speeches are politicians and litigating lawyers. The last type of speech according to purpose is the entertainment speech, which seeks to bring laughter or joy to an audience. An example of this type is a skit of a comedian.
On the other hand, there are four types of speech according to delivery: manuscript, memorized, extemporaneous, and impromptu. Manuscript speeches are performed with the help of visual cues that can be as simple as manila paper or as extravagant as a teleprompter. In these visual aids, the speech of the speaker is written word-for-word. Some examples of manuscript speeches can be news report done by a television anchor and when the president addresses the nation during his SONA. The next type is the memorized speech which is delivered by the speaker by heart or "memorizing." An example of this is the dialogue of actors. The third type of speech is the extemporaneous speech. Usually, this speech is planned and rehearsed, however, this type of speech is delivered in a conversational manner. This speech may also use guides like notes or cue cards, an example of this speech is when politicians speak to the public as a part of their campaign. The last type is the impromptu speech where the speakers are not prepared for the subject that they will be talking about. An example of the impromptu speech is when debaters argue about a certain motion.
